MENTED IS RELAUNCHING SUMMER 2024

The Significance of Juneteenth

The Significance of Juneteenth

As summer approaches, we're gearing up to celebrate a momentous occasion that holds incredible significance for the African American community—Juneteenth. At Mented Cosmetics, we're all about embracing freedom, self-expression, and inclusivity. Join us as we delve into Juneteenth's uplifting significance and stroll through history to see how it became a national holiday.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the liberation of the last enslaved African Americans in the United States. Picture this: On June 19, 1865, General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas, and proclaimed freedom for our brothers and sisters who had long been denied their basic rights. This historic moment arrived more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Talk about a long journey towards freedom!

Juneteenth Timeline

After years of grassroots efforts, Juneteenth gained traction as a recognized holiday in various states across the country. The significance and joy of Juneteenth spread like wildfire, and on June 17, 2021, President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, making Juneteenth an official federal holiday. This historic milestone acknowledges the importance of commemorating the struggle for freedom and amplifies the voices of the African American community.

Juneteenth unites us as a community and serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight against systemic oppression. In this time we stand in solidarity with one another and our black-owned brand partners in our upcoming Juneteenth Campaign. Let's continue to uplift and support each other, fostering a stronger, more inclusive society. Together, we can make a difference.
